- Describe one positive aspect of the activity - did it allow you to participate more than in a face to face activity? Did you learn something new about the subject? Did it help you reflect more?
- The activity that I enjoyed most was the research article review. Often times in f2f class you do this on your own and present a report as an aside. However, this assignment helped me to become more familiar with the group participants, gaining a better understanding of their interests and background by their article choices. I was autonomous having been able to use an article of my own choosing and interests. Though initially I thought it would be exhaustive to read through the reviews, given the articles presented, it was very enlightening. In reflection, found that I enjoyed posting responses to the reviews due to a true interest in the materials presented, and not because it was mandatory.
- Describe one negative aspect of the activity - did you feel ignored or misunderstood? Wasn't there enough structure to the discussion? Did the instructor/moderator not give enough feedback?
- Although I enjoyed reading the reviews, I was not certain if it was mandatory to read the articles provided. I would like more direction in regards to what is optional and what is mandatory.
- Describe one thing which can be done to improve the activity in light of this week's readings (or some ideas that you have about online interaction that would work even better).
- One problem was that I did not know if I had to reply to each classmate’s review. Also, having read the "Guide on the Side” chapter after my replies to the reviews, I would have liked to be assured that I was using inquiry type responses and not "Sage on the Stage” dictatorial type responses. I guess I would like input if I am heading in the right direction. Although, the readings may help me reflect in a metacognitive manner to answer my own question. And I guess I’m wondering, am I supposed to be training and responding like a mediator? Or am I to be figuring it all out on my own and revealing it through discussion responses as a student?
That’s it for now,
Bonnie
